Big Bend’s diversity is its biggest draw. Wide valleys, vast deserts, ever-changing forests, mountains and rivers offer a variety of fascinating landscapes. One of the best places to experience all the places is Big Bend National Park.
Unfortunately, the national park does not allow pets on trails, along rivers or in the countryside. However, stranded pets can walk the 200+ miles of dirt roads that run through the park, and most of them get very little traffic! Jeep rides, offshore trips, trips down the Rio Grande to the Presidio and exploring small communities are other popular activities.
Pet camps are available year-round in Big Bend National Park and there are many private campgrounds in the area. You can also find many pet-friendly vacation rentals and Airbnbs in Big Bend. And there are four pet-friendly hotels within easy walking distance of the national park.
If you’re looking for a pet tour where you can get away from it all, Dixie National Forest is hard to beat. Covering nearly 2 million acres, it would take a lifetime to explore the 1,600 miles of trails, hundreds of miles of trails, 500 miles of fishing trails, and 90 lakes within the park’s boundaries.
