Litter Box Training TIPS & TRICKS Pet Topics Grilling to Keep Friends Out of the Shelter Pet Topics We’ve been doing this almost every year since Emmett recently came with us. We pack our bags and head to a cabin somewhere in the woods for a long weekend of pet activities: hiking, sleeping, snacking, whatever!
It’s a lot of fun planning a trip with your dog because… well… first, let’s talk a little about vacations.
We all need to take a step back from time to time. Even those of us who are married carry stress, and the holidays give us a chance to escape the hustle and bustle and recharge our batteries. Dogs? Well, they don’t have such a daily workload. (Thank God, huh? That’s one of the things that makes dogs so adorable!) But a lot of dogs are boring. And although your dog is never bored, he loves you and loves the opportunity to socialize and play!
One caveat: this is about planning your vacation around YOUR dog. In 2006, we were able to take Em wherever we wanted, and he loved nothing more than sitting on the pet-friendly patio and enjoying the attention and food. He could visit a winery just as easily as walk a trail and be just as happy. If your dog is like this, that’s great! You can do almost anything to relax your dog!
Pet-friendly Vacations And Dog Travel Practicalities
Cooper, but…Kup is not one iota like that. Public spaces emphasize this. Every time I took him to the cafe terrace to train, he was so worried that he wouldn’t take a treat, even if I ordered him his own plate of something delicious, like scrambled eggs! Such a vacation will simply not be a fun and rewarding experience. However, he likes exercise. He likes to run. He likes hiking. He loves physical challenges, and we haven’t been able to do that since Violet came along, so this year we decided to take him on longer and harder hikes than he’s done in the past few years. .
So we found a pet friendly cabin near a park we wanted to visit and off we went!
If you’re intrigued by the idea and might want to take your dog on vacation, here are some things that have worked (and not worked) for us to help you get started!
If you’re planning your vacation with your pet, you can do fun things together while you’re on the road! π It’s a great way to connect, enjoy time and go on new adventures. You’ll love the memories you’ll share and have a great time – that’s the most important thing!
