With beaches, forests, parks, castles, ruins and of course Stonehenge, Hampshire has something for everyone Canine Country is a new initiative launched by Hampshire Countryside Service. The goal is to let people know where to take their dog off the lead and where they want their dog to be on a lead or trail. The colored route marker disc will show you the area which makes it easy to know what can be done where. We took a look at some dog-friendly places to visit and stay.
Brown Down Point Beach is a sand and shingle beach owned by the Department of Conservation. It is located near Gosport, outside Portsmouth. In clear weather you can see straight to the Isle of Wight. The beach back at Alwar Valley Country Park (see below).
Calshot Beach is part of a mile-long shingle spit that juts out into the mouth of Southampton Water, offering spectacular views of ships coming and going from one of England’s great ports. So it is the site of the tower of the 16th century, on the other side of the bridge is a large salt flat that is home to birds and other animals.
On Milford Beach, a shingle beach along the water’s edge with sand at low tide. Characteristic beach huts are located on the beach and have views of the Isle of Wight and the Needles. To the west you can clearly see the Purbeck Hills, Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Harbour. There are various places on the beach to stop and fill up.
