There are resorts like the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, luxury hotels like All-Star Resorts, and many others in between.
But did you know that there are even hotels where you can leave your pet while on vacation?

Disney World offers basic pet care. Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground had one kennel when it opened in 1971, and Disney later added additional kennels to each of the four parks.
But in the early 2000s, Disney was ready to start publishing. Best Friends Pets acquired Disney properties in 2008, and then opened its Disney property center in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, in 2010.
Now, the Best Friends Hotel is a one-stop shop for lodging, housekeeping, and other services on Disney properties.
Insider spoke with Ray Clennell and Leo Reynoso – the managers of the Best Western Hotel – about the hotel, the animals they care for, and the services they offer.

Clennell has been with Best Friends Pet Care for 10 years, while Reynoso has been with the company for 16 years.
“In the old days you would drop off your dog and we would take care of it with walks, food and water, but nothing more – nothing to decorate or enhance their presence,” said Reynoso of the former Disney company.
But the current hotel, he said, has many places and activities. You can send your dog to Doggy Day Camp, groom your cat, board your pet, and more.
More than 100 animals stay at Disney’s Best Friends Hotel every day – mostly dogs and cats.

It was a “slow day” at the hotel, and the manager spoke to Clennell and Reynoso. However, there are more than 100 animals in the house.
“We have 110 animals at the end of the day today, and that’s considered very, very slow,” Clennell said.
About 20 of those reservations, Reynoso said, were made by evacuees in Tampa, Florida, ahead of Hurricane Idalia.
“We also have a hurricane shelter, so at a time like this when we get those hurricane threats, we can take that and add it to our shelter,” he said.

Reynoso said those animals include rabbits, sugar cane, fish, “many birds,” and turtles. In some cases, it is recommended to keep beta fish.
“We have a pigeon that comes to us seven times a year named Mr. Bubbles,” Reynoso said. “It’s great.”
Pigs are in the house “all the time,” Reynoso said, while ducks are another frequent visitor.
“We have a woman who, every year, brings us her five ducks,” Clennell said. “They took over one of the conference rooms and put eggs everywhere.”

Reynoso said the hotel staff can take care of the animals “which are not poisonous but beginners.” That being said, people ask to hunt large animals “all the time.”
“We have tarantulas, laughing cocks – crazy, crazy things,” he said. “Someone told us to go out during the storm and get a zebra.”
“Sometimes people try to bring these animals into parks,” Reynoso said. “And I ended up getting a call from Disney saying, ‘Hey, this woman is trying to bring her baby kangaroo into Animal Kingdom. Can you take it for the day?’ And we end up with them sometimes.”
As for their living areas, dogs can stay in one of five areas, the smallest and smallest being the indoor room.

“It depends on what kind of houses the owners bring in,” Reynoso said. “We don’t have anything specific, we just need to know the size of the apartment.”

Admission is $16 for small animals, $20 for medium animals, $25 for large animals, and $28 for large animals.
Even though Disney World is right at home, you don’t have to go to the theme park to leave your pet there.
“A common misconception is that we’re the only ones at Disney,” Reynoso said. “But you don’t have to be at the top of Disney to use us for costumes and other activities. Busch Gardens in Tampa or Universal in Orlando.”
If you’re visiting Disney World, however, you’ll find that hotel hours are the same as those at the theme parks.

“We are open during park hours,” Clennell said. “So it opens an hour before the first one opens and it closes an hour after the last parking lot. And the staff is here 24/7, too.”

“The people of Florida are called a community,” Reynoso said. “We have people from Miami and Jacksonville who bring their dogs. It’s also on the Disney cruise line for an hour and a half. So people — not just the Disney ships, but the boats — there’s a little water — leave their pets here. .”
“We have people from Canada who are snowbirds that have come down,” he continued. “I mean, we really get people here from all over the world.”
