Who will be the next star of our wall of fame? Looking to find an epic vacation with your child for Christmas? If you love cold, snow and all things Christmas, Christmas in Quebec is the perfect dog destination. From New York to Quebec, Canada, it’s about a 9-hour drive and one of the best road trips we’ve ever taken.
Despite the long journey, the vacation was worth it! You see, Quebec turns into a Christmas village during the holidays, just like in a Charles Dickens novel. A Christmas song. Here’s where to stay, what to do and where to eat with your baby.
We stayed at the dog-friendly Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. This hotel is located in the heights overlooking the St. Lawrence River and looks like a castle in the sky. A five-star luxury hotel is the most photographed hotel in the world! The hotel accepts up to two pets of any size for a fee of $50 CDA per night.
Paw-fectly Pet-friendly Places
The interior of the hotel was fully decorated for the holidays and the halls were covered with magnificently decorated Christmas trees. It didn’t take long to check in and we were so surprised that Gatsby patiently waited in line for us even after a long drive. The hotel staff made sure Gatsby was welcomed. He doesn’t eat croquettes, so we asked the hotel to make him salmon and roast beef. The staff even asked Gatsby if the salmon was cooked to the right temperature.
The best thing about Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is that it offers dog-sitting services. We booked one when Danny and I went for dinner and when we went dog sledding. They charge $26/hour (CAD) with a 3 hour minimum for one person to see Gatsby in our room. You can instruct the housekeeper to leave the room alone or take your dog for a walk and play in the snow park outside the hotel.
We walked with Gatsby on the Dufferin Terrace, which surrounds the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. This elevated area offers panoramic views of Old Quebec and the St. Lawrence River. Here there is a giant slide where people line up at the top of the slide (height 270 feet) to go down the slide that goes down at up to 60 km/h. Gatsby was standing there enjoying watching the people go down the slide!
The German Christmas market is open from November 22nd to December 23rd and we managed to catch the last day of the festive market. We strolled through the market and found unique and beautiful handmade items from Quebec and foods such as Nuremberg gingerbread, German Christmas cakes and other German foods such as sausages, pretzels, wine and more.
