Best Vacations With Dogs West Coast – In this post, I want to look at the most dog-friendly places in the West ~ with an emphasis on California and Oregon, two states that are easy to travel with pets (I know because I travel here all the time). In these states, I’d like to find places that rank high in dog-friendliness; plenty of parks or dog-friendly beaches, better dog-friendly hotels, and quiet downtown areas where it’s easy to bring your own. animals together adventure. And I found some great places like Bend, Oregon and Carmel, California…among many others. Join me and my dog Dylan as we search for the “Best Pet Friendly Tours on the West Coast”.
Although Cannon Beach is the only dog-friendly beach in Oregon, keep in mind that almost every beach in Oregon is dog-friendly, with fewer rules and restrictions than California beaches. Translation: The Oregon Coast is PERFECT for family travel. Image of Gold Beach, Oregon.

I love Cannon Beach for so many reasons: interesting town, lots of great restaurants, COFFEE (Sleepy Monk!!), lots of first class, friendly hotels, and of course the Beach, which is 100% pet friendly. surgical No ties required here!! Oregon is more relaxed about this than California. And the views from Haystack Rock will delight you especially at sunset. Take a backpacking stroll down Ocean Street, enjoy a bowl of chowder on one of the many outdoor patios, and be sure to stop by the adorable pet store around the corner, Love by the Sea.
Best Dog-friendly Travel Along Oregon Coast · The Wildest
*** My pick for the best friendly hotels in Cannon Beach. This is a partnership between Ocean Lodge & Surfsand Resort. Both are oceanfront, great hotels and very friendly. The Ocean Lodge rooms are bigger and have a better view ~ but Surfsand is closer to Haystack Rock, the rooms are more comfortable, the Wayfarer restaurant is my favorite place in town (and they serve it big)…
Bend is my current home in the US, and to be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever lived anywhere so friendly. Bend’s amazing dog parks only put those in California to shame, and almost every restaurant in town with a play area is dog-friendly, including McMenamin’s St. Francis School (which is a bar, pub, cinema, theatre). , cigar bar and hotel, all in the old Catholic school), Naked Winery, Avid Cider, Crux Brewing, 10 Barrel…. and the list goes on…&ON.
Bend has more dog-friendly resorts, hotels and restaurants than any other city on this list. Dylan is pictured on the famous Deschutes River Trail in downtown Bend.
*** My pick for the best customer service hotel in Bend, Tetherow Golf Resort. At Tetherow, you have a great golf course with gorgeous mountain views ~ and you’re only a 5 minute drive from downtown Bend, the famous Old Mill District. This is the friendliest place to stay in town. Otherwise, head to Sunriver Resort, about 20 minutes south of Bend, one of America’s best family resorts.

The 11 Most Dog-friendly Beaches In The U.s.
I grew up in Orange County and just last week I met some friends in Huntington Beach at the new outdoor store Pacific City. I had Dylan with me on the way home for Christmas, which meant I had to take him to the store with me…he was amazed at how that worked out. Big boutiques invited us over, had coffee with us, and we all had dinner on Simzi’s patio overlooking the creek and ocean. I would go back in a heartbeat. And there’s another reason to visit Huntington with a bag. this is Orange County’s ONLY dog-friendly beach.
*** Dog friendly hotels in Huntington Beach. Kimpton Shorebreak Huntington Beach. Kimpton is gloriously sweet and always dog friendly…they even offer a dog happy hour! It’s especially romantic, with an ocean view complemented by a light blue palette ~ and you’re only a block away from the pier, Main Street, and the ocean. And Huntington Dog Beach is a mile north…
San Diego has not one, but two dog-friendly beaches, and both are located in the wonderful neighborhoods of Del Mar and Coronado. Last year, Dylan and I visited Del Mar Dog Beach, which is just south of Encinitas. Although it is not as big as Carmel Beach, it is still amazing. Happy dogs were in and out of the water, people were relaxed and friendly, and parking was easy since the lots were on the same street as the beach access. Coronado Dog Beach has pure white sand and is located at the historic and comfortable Hotel Del Coronado.
Coronado Beach is one of the best places to play in the sand with your little one in Southern California.
The Guide To Virginia’s Dog-friendly Beaches
***Best Dog Friendly Hotels in San Diego. San Diego is big, so it all depends on where you want to stay. For upstate, try L’Auberge Del Mar, which accepts two dogs of any size. If you’re downtown in the Gaslamp, check out the hip Hotel Indigo with its trendy rooftop bar. And if you want to be close to Coronado’s beaches, check out Hotel del Coronado ~ home to three friendly restaurants. (Dogs up to 40 lbs in Del only….)
This concludes my research on the best places for dogs on the west coast. The only thing I’d like to add is that more and more travel articles I’ve read lately seem to be written by A.I. or by unknown editors who have not actually been to the places they recommend. Calm down. I visited all the places on this list last year, so my recommendations are up-to-date and aimed at 2020 and beyond.
