Dog Friendly Resorts Vancouver Island – Vancouver Island is located west of Vancouver and can only be reached by ferry (which can help you get around after bringing your car on board) or by air. When I first visited there I discovered the time-dependent (be careful) prices of the ferry services and while they were expensive at peak, traveling by sea plan was not much more expensive. I heard it was a great experience. Both have dog-friendly travel options. The island has a fairly fair climate, and although it rains incessantly in Vancouver, there was little rain that interfered with our plans.
When I started my first trip to Vancouver Island, I was considering staying in Victoria and looking for dog-friendly accommodations there. During my research, I found a pet-friendly hotel, the Prestige Oceanfront Resort Sooke. Having stayed at the Prestige Resort many times over the past two and a half years, I knew it was a reliable hotel and that Mia and I would stay there.

A 30-minute drive from Soke Victoria, the hotel is a bit away from the tourist crowds but still has all the amenities you need to enjoy your stay. When I spoke to many locals, they told me that they used to live in Victoria but decided to move to Soke to avoid the crowds. That’s how I feel about this city, this little resort by the sea.
Tofino Laid-back Luxury Resort
When I first arrived at Prestige Oceanfront Resort Sooke, I was a little confused. When you look at the building, you might think it is a palace rather than a hotel. It has an excellent airboard construction that really suits its maritime location.
The hotel has all the amenities you’d expect, including a restaurant, pool, day spa, fitness center, and a large patio area with beautiful water views. I enjoyed eating at the restaurant while I was out, the service I received was excellent (the waiter was Australian so it was nice to have someone who understood how I speak) and my steak was delicious.
The resort has beautiful ocean views from the balconies and surrounding gardens, and they were hosting a wedding when we visited.
Our room was simple but spacious and clean. There are two queen beds, a desk, refrigerator, TV, storage and a large closet. They also provided a good sized pet bed and food and water bowls for Mia to keep. I think this hotel has pet friendly rooms, so if you want to stay here make sure you book early and let them know one of these rooms is available.
Vancouver Island Accommodations
I was told that Mia was allowed to accompany me on vacation, except that food and drinks were provided (this is a result of British Columbia health regulations). The property charges a $40 per night pet fee to contribute to the cleaning fee, but there is no additional charge and parking is free.
Unfortunately, all the activities we wanted to do didn’t allow Mia to join us and I had to spend the afternoon taking care of the dog. Victoria and Sooke had many options that were easy to find on Google. I wasn’t too impressed with our experience, so I won’t say who we went with, but you can find someone for about $25 for half a day.
We spent the night across from Sooke Harbor to Prestige Oceanfront Resort Sooke at Sooke East. Unfortunately, I lost my photos because a speeding boat passed us and I lost some camera equipment on the side of the canoe. A 2-hour boat ride from the port costs $45
While visiting Vancouver Island, we strolled through downtown Victoria to see the beautiful British architecture that makes up the city. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops if you want to browse. Following a recommendation, we stopped at the Canoe Brew Pub, which had a great patio and free parking. Unfortunately this apartment is not dog friendly due to British Columbia health regulations, but you can keep them close so you can both see each other.
Pacific Sands Beach Resort
It has been said that one of the best places in North America for whales in their natural habitat is Vancouver Island. I had the chance to see whales for the first time there with Eagle Wing Tours. Tourists will drive around 3-4 hours from Victoria. Eagle Wing Tours has three types of boats, one of which is completely open and the other two have indoor areas and bathrooms. They often see humpback whales or orcas. Unfortunately, these tours are not dog-friendly, so you will need to plan dog-friendly days if you want to experience these tours.
The crew on board was great, they even lent us extra warm clothes, they were very knowledgeable and gave me information about the area and different sea animals. We got to see a mother and her baby. In total we saw five humpback whales that we had never seen before. It was truly an amazing experience to see such magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Another great thing about Eagle Wing Tours is that they recognize the importance of the environment and conservation to their business and the rest of the community. As a result, when you book a trip with them, a percentage of the trip cost is donated to various conservation funds. Tours range from $85-$135 per person.
While exploring Sooke, we checked out Sooke Pot Holes, which is about a 10-15 minute drive from Prestige Oceanfront Resort Sooke. The area is dog friendly, but dogs must be on a leash and people should be aware that black bears are in the area. It’s a beautiful area and I hear it’s a great swimming spot in the summer. The introduction was a bit cold, but Mia decides she doesn’t want to be a car and seems to have quite a bit of fun. From the top view area you can see the pits or there are several walkways of different lengths.
We had a great time exploring South Vancouver Island, but I’ve heard great things about Tofino when you visit, so I’ll add a few more days to try and see the drought as well. and Victoria. I’ve also heard great things about zip lining tours in Sooke. Vacations are a time when the whole family can get together and enjoy traveling.
