We went hiking in Marquette, Michigan and it was a nice friendly outing. It’s a wonderful combination of elevation, flat terrain and, on a clear day, beautiful views of Lake Superior.
Several hiking and biking trails, so make sure you know the weather and follow the Hogback Trail. The finish can be a bit steep and rocky. I nudge Katapaxi a few times and lift as needed.
If rocky terrain isn’t your thing, consider driving 4,000 miles north on the National Scenic Byway. You go to the amusement park with games Lakanenland. Or try a mirror ride on the big lakes and the many canals that flow into the water. You can’t go wrong with your decision to study at Marquette this summer. Every city is SUPER dog friendly!

Big Island, located behind Munising Beach, is in Lake Superior. A 10-minute walk with the dog will take you to the island. You can walk around the whole island or go around it. We live in an old house in the national parks. There are many tourists during the day, but if you have the opportunity to sleep at night, you will be one of the few on this large and peaceful island. Our dog never objected and the boat ride was quick! We took strollers and bags as the house is two miles from the beach. Everything is packed and unpacked for easy cleanup, but bring your essentials!
Green Point Dunes is located on the popular M-22 highway near the center of Frankfurt. Beautiful views of Lake Michigan, trails that are dog friendly and long enough to make you sweat on a hot summer day.
This is our favorite when we go to one of the delicious restaurants in Franklin (we live near Interlochen, Michigan).
Many of our nature reserves are protected and managed by the Grand Traverse and Leelanau Nature Reserves, and everything we encounter is dog-friendly.
Pet Friendly Vacation Rentals In Northern Michigan
This trail is in a national forest near where we live in Interlochen. If we go in the summer, then wagons and houses. As a result, it is a trail for us. Honestly, unless you’re near Interlochen, I don’t think you should go out of your way to do it. But if so, that’s good! With no traffic, the 6.5 mile loop and flat terrain is perfect for running.
Cotopaxi found his baby legs at Lost Lake and I will never forget his high energy level here!
A quieter alternative to the popular Dune Trails is Sleeping Bear. Here you will find the best view of Lake Michigan that I have seen in my two summers in Michigan. The courses offer a great length and level of difficulty, so be sure to capture the surprise in your head when you see it. The Great Lakes can have a big impact on you as you open yourself up to the beauty and power of nature!
Looking at these roads and photos makes me so grateful for my time in northern Michigan. I’ve had (hopefully) one of the most difficult family experiences of the summer. Both Catapaxi and these roads lead me and my partner to all of this. Peace is our priority, as expected of the human joy of the traveler. He promotes health by encouraging us to walk our dogs in Northern Michigan every day. So it’s not just a walk with the best dogs. Rin is a device to run through the thunder and get out of the storm alive. We do, and I hope that everyone who is going through hard times knows that they are going through it too.
