It’s good to bring familiar things that will help your child feel at home. Most rentals or beach cabins will have a policy regarding pets. As a general rule, you should not leave your pet unattended, unless it is in a kennel. Also, pets should be kept off the furniture so if your pup tends to hang out on the sofa, bring extra sheets or blankets from home. Also, don’t forget to bring your trash bags, toys, food, treats, and anything else that will ensure a fun beach trip with your dog.
What are you waiting for? Pack your bags and head home to endless skies and sun-kissed memories! The West Coast is beautiful, I don’t think anyone can argue with that. But in my ever-humble opinion, the Oregon coast has the most beautiful scenery and the most things to do and see. As someone who is very attached to my dogs, it is very important that the Oregon coast is also very dog friendly. Let me take you through what I believe is a very comprehensive guide to what you should see for yourself and your dog.

Whether you’re traveling with your fur baby or not, let me give you a guide to the PNW coast, from Astoria to the Crescent City, avoid the crowds, do it on a budget, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Traveler’s tip: Many great sights have parking fees. You may want to consider purchasing an Oregon Pacific Coast or Oregon State Park pass as it will cost more over time than paying for individual park passes.
If you’re coming from Portland, you’ll want to start at the north end of the beach, in Astoria, and work your way down the beach from there. Astoria is a charming beach town with lots of hills to walk and lots to do. and look.
One place you’ll want to include on your Astoria tour is the Astoria Column. Located on the highest hill in the city, you can climb several steps to the top to get an amazing view of the area. From the top of the pole, you’ll be able to see the mouth of the Pacific Ocean, the Columbia and Youngs Rivers, and the Astoria-Megler Bridge.
Now, you can’t take the dog up the column, because there isn’t enough room for people to squeeze into the column, let alone a walking dog. But you can climb the hill, have lunch at one of the picnic tables and enjoy the view from the top of the hill with your fur baby.
