Best Vacations That Are Dog Friendly – There’s something about January that makes me want to sit down with the calendar and plan more trips for the coming year. It’s so cold and dark outside, curling up on the laptop and planning some errands is satisfying.

Even though we’ve taken a break from our big international travels during this pandemic, we’re still enjoying getting to know the Seattle area and our Seattle weekends. After spending ten years away from New York and Chicago, it was great to come back and catch up on old favorites, as well as see all the new glampsites, boutique hotels, and unique Airbnbs that have popped up here. And most of all I loved seeing how many of them adopted dog-friendly solutions in their living space. I would be very happy if we could come with Dave and Lizzie on our holidays.

Bring your best friend to experience the magic of wine country at one of our favorite spots in the area. We have been on a weekend break at Sagecliff since 2015 and it never disappoints. Captain Whidbey is at the top of my vacation “wish list” for 2022. With recent appearances in magazines like Vogue, this well-appointed bedroom has been all over Instagram and I can’t wait to take a trip. . Walla Walla is one of the best wine regions in the country with over 120 wineries, so I can’t think of a better place to spend a few days. Coho Oceanfront really stole my heart with these fire pits. Although this Oregon resort is only a short drive from Seattle, its beautiful interior and sweeping views of the Pacific make it worth it. Dogs weighing less than 25 kg are welcome in selected rooms. More details here.

My New Year’s resolution is to book a stay at the Dream Lodge in St. Edward as soon as possible, which should be as easy as half an hour drive outside the city. This historic seminary is a restored resort located on 326 acres of direct access to Lake Washington. We had a great week at the Lodges on Vashon in January 2020 – and blogged about it here – and the memories kept me going through the first few months of the shutdown. We spent a wonderful Easter weekend in Semiahmoo in 2019 and I was looking forward to the opportunity to return to its beautiful views and remote beach that Lizzie loved. Just steps from the Canadian border, this resort is located in a beautiful campground with great hiking and beautiful views of the North Washington Coast. They are very dog ​​friendly and the puppies are welcomed with their own bowls, beds and (at least during our visit) souvenirs. Information about the dog here.

Step back in time and stay in one of these vintage trailers in Dayton, Oregon. The best part? They are located in the Willamette Wine Country. I love a one-of-a-kind vacation and Rolling Huts of Winthrop offers just that. These tiny houses were designed by Seattle-based Olson Kundig Architects to be a modern version of camping. Okay, this isn’t technically available yet, but we’ve already signed up for the second installment of these trailer parks in Olympic National Park. They offer more comfort than traditional camping, while providing a private and sustainable way to get into nature. This beautiful beach town on Washington’s beautiful Pacific Coast is everything I want on vacation: a big town with great shopping and restaurants, lots of rental shops, and a clean sandy beach. Dogs are welcome at most rentals.

With beautiful views of Lake Washington, Woodmark offers a great getaway a short drive outside of downtown Seattle. If you haven’t heard of Tentrr yet, you’re missing out. We’ve stayed with them twice (in Vermont and on the Maine trip we talked about here) and each trip has been great. In fact, they have set up luxury safari tents on unique private properties such as this beautiful fruit farm near Mead, Washington. It’s true that Idaho is a short drive from Seattle, but we could drive anywhere to stay in this spiritual place. Even the little details like the on-site sauna and vintage coffee grinder melt my heart. Pets are allowed, although judging from the door you may want to consider whether this would be a suitable holiday for you or not.
