When you travel to the Northeast by RV, you’ll enjoy both mountain and ocean views! Big cities like New York, Boston and Philadelphia also have a bit of history and culture. This area really has it all. But like every other area we visited, Brickle and Digby have their favorite dog-friendly RV destinations in the Northeast.
Eleven states make up the northeastern region of the United States. Including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. The northeast has a varied climate. with a very cold winter, but visiting the area in summer makes for great hikes. And the fall colors will inspire you to go out with your dog.
Our favorite part of the trip was the food. And the area has everything from Boston Baked Beans. wild blueberries, stews, purees, bread and apples! Our dogs Brickle and Digby definitely have favorites! We can share blueberry pie in Maine!
Dog-friendly Days Out
Mystic Seaport spans 19 acres on the banks of Connecticut’s Mystic River and is the largest maritime museum in the United States. But this is a real park! Walk your dog, see beautiful old boats, and learn about the maritime lifestyle common to this part of New England. Pets must be kept on a leash. And welcome in all outdoor areas. Pets can accompany you on narrated waterfront boat trips. As long as the tour size allows space for dogs on the boat! Choose an RV resort in an area with water views and welcome dogs!
Delaware is the second smallest state in the country. But there are also five beautiful parks for camping! We enjoy Killens Pond State Park near Felton, Delaware. Killens Pond is a great place for kayaking, canoeing, boating or rowing and walking around the pond with your dog. Killens Pond State Park Campground has 59 single-family campsites with electric and water hookups that are dog-friendly.
You may have heard of the popular Bar Harbor in Maine. But have you ever heard of Bass Harbor? After arriving in Bass Harbor, Maine, located on the “back” of Mount Desert Island, where most of Acadia National Park is located in the southwestern part of the island, we couldn’t stop talking about this destination for many years Island. Our most popular dog-friendly hike starts from Bass Harbor Campground to Bass Harbor Head Light! It is located here in the parkland not far southeast of the harbor. It is one of the most photographed and well-known lighthouses in the United States. We still remember the sound of water, buoys and birds. We feel really peaceful. After a day of picking blueberries and eating cake. This walk is perfect. Don’t forget that there are over 100 miles of dog-friendly hiking trails in Acadia National Park!
Cape Cod in Massachusetts is truly an experience. Cape Cod is a peninsula that forms the tip of the state of Massachusetts. It is a popular summer destination. But visiting off-season is a good way to avoid traffic jams. Your charming village, your lighthouse, your pond, your bay and your sea beach as well as the playground for your dog. We also enjoyed visiting the big city of Hyannis and trying out the ferry. We also decided to take the dog-friendly ferry to Martha’s Vineyard to get some ice cream! Not all dogs have sea legs. So get ready! Camping in your RV on Cape Cod gives you a great base for traveling to various destinations. In Massachusetts, you can choose between rustic and more expensive resorts.
Pet-friendly Paradises In Asia,
There’s only one way to get to this island in the heart of the Chesapeake Bay: by boat. Smith Island is located just off the coast of Crisfield. About 12 miles from Maryland, head to the port town of Crisfield and board one of the passenger ferries that operate here. In a 45 minute drive, your dog will love the breeze through his fur! However, Brickle wasn’t too happy about this trip. Every dog is different. Tell your dog that this island was first charted by Captain John Smith in 1608! Around 200 year-round residents live here. Many people speak traditional dialect. Take time to stroll the island’s streets and experience the simple way of life. Be sure to try Maryland’s state cake, the Smith Island Cake. This is truly an adventure you will never forget.
The White Mountain National Forest in eastern New Hampshire ranges from mountain hardwood forests to soaring alpine peaks. Let’s experience the breathtaking view. Clear mountain lakes and streams, wildlife, and year-round outdoor recreation opportunities with your dog! The White Mountains National Forest has miles of hiking trails, forests, rivers and lakes where dogs can play. Some pet-friendly attractions require dogs to be on a leash. From campgrounds to RVs to full-service locations. In addition to river or mountain views, the White Mountains also offer incredible variety for campers!
Not many people think of rural areas and farms when they think of New Jersey, but rather Sussex, New Jersey. It will make you look at this situation differently! Pleasant Acres Campground Located in the rural hills of northwest New Jersey, Pleasant Acres Farm offers visitors the opportunity to camp in a farm-like atmosphere! Hayrides and petting farm animals are just the beginning. Our dogs love seeing the farm animals and flying in the stream. Great dog hikes are also available at High Point State Park. This park is the northernmost point of New Jersey and has the highest elevation in the country. You can see New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania from above! If country life tires you out, you’re just a short drive from the Big Apple. The best of both worlds is in your cowboy boots.
Warwick, New York is known for its wine production. An agricultural community with an annual apple festival in October, Warwick is a great dog-friendly destination for hikers looking to lose themselves in nature. We went picking Brickle and Digby apples at the beautiful farm stand. Then visit the dog-friendly winery and cider house! What would be better?
10 Dog-friendly Vacations On The East Coast
Have you ever heard of the Kinzua Bridge? Once you’ve seen it, walk across the glass floor and you’ll never forget it. Our dog will never forget it! Kinsua Bridge State Park is a 137-acre Pennsylvania state park near Mount Jewett. Kinzua Bridge State Park was selected as one of the “25 Must-See Pennsylvania State Parks” by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and the Bureau of Parks.
When it was built in 1882, the Kinzua Bridge was the tallest railway bridge in the world at 301 feet. It’s a great place to walk. Visitors with their dogs can walk around 600 feet of the remaining tower. Look out into Kinzua Gorge and some glass platforms at the end of the walkway.
Our time in Rhode Island was short but unforgettable. Travel back in time with your dog on the Cliff Walk in New Port, Rhode Island. The Cliff Walk runs along the east coast of Newport. Rhode Island is world-famous as a public highway that combines the natural beauty of Newport’s coast with Newport’s Golden Age architectural history. The 3.5 mile winding trail offers spectacular views of the horizon. As the Atlantic Ocean crashes against the jagged cliffs and the waves crash over the weathered rocks below. Dogs are allowed on a leash.
Earning the nickname “Green Mountain State,” Vermont offers two- and four-legged travelers endless opportunities for outdoor adventures with your dog.
