Best Dog Friendly Beaches – If you’re dreaming of a beach break with your dog this summer, our guide to the best dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex is just what you need. Located on the south coast, between East Sussex on one side and Hampshire on the other, West Sussex is one of the most accessible coastal areas from London and has many dog-friendly beaches all year round, even in summer. This means that you can enjoy a day at the beach with your dog whenever you want, less than two hours from London.
On many of the beaches we visited, you could almost imagine you were abroad, as the beach was backdropped by a bright blue sky and a blue-green sea that sparkled in the sun. West Sussex beaches are generally sandy beaches, but at low tide there are miles of dense sand waiting for pups to play. And let’s be honest, from a dog’s perspective, they probably don’t care if the tide is high or low, they’re just happy to be on an ocean adventure with their humans.

Best Dog Friendly Beaches To Visit In West Sussex
We’ve been busy visiting Sussex’s many beaches (someone has to do that) and took a few factors into account when compiling this list… the beach itself, the dog restrictions, how easy it is to get there from London and everywhere . the rest. Nearby dog facilities. Even if there are dog-friendly facilities on the beach, be sure to always carry water to keep your dog hydrated, even bring a cooling coat or bandana if you think they’ll need them.
These are our favorite dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex and the essentials you need to know to make the most of your dog’s beach day.
Top tip: When planning your beach day, be sure to check the tide times, which you can check on this website. If your pup is not yet accustomed to the sea, it is best to visit during low tide. Rest assured, whether it’s low tide or high tide, whether the beach is dirt or sand, there is an unmatched feeling when you are “by the sea”… with your dog, of course.
Littlehampton West Beach is one of the few places in West Sussex where you can find sand dunes (the best dunes we’ve found so far were at the dog-friendly Camber Sands in East Sussex). West Beach, along the Arun River, stretches for miles all the way to Klimping (more on this below). Littlehampton actually has two beaches, on either side of the river: East Beach and West Beach. East Beach is reserved for swimmers during the summer months, which is fair since dogs have their own beach on West Beach. You can get to the beach by walking in front of the West Beach Café or walking the wooden walkway across the sand dunes behind the café (our preference).
The Best Dog Friendly Beaches In The Uk
It may not be as popular as the others, but it is a great beach to visit with your dog thanks to its wide sandy beach, the cool wooden Perch cafe in Lansing Beach, and the large green area behind the beach where dogs can run . Perch has a resident dog named Harry, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for people and dogs, and a varied menu for lunch or dinner (dinner is available in summer).
Another great dog friendly beach with a very popular dog friendly cafe which we especially came to visit… Bluebird Cafe. The cafe has a real beach feel and is colorful and welcoming to both people and dogs. You’ll also find a lovely row of colorful beach huts a little further back from the sand, which are great for photography, although not of the caliber of the West Wittering Beach Huts.
It is the quickest beach accessible by train from London and, like all its West Sussex counterparts, offers miles of dog-friendly pebble beach all year round. But after the beach, we always look for a dog-friendly cafe, and since there isn’t a cafe on the beach, we recommend taking the one-stop train to Lansing Beach, see point 2 above.
Climping Beach is the beach to come to if you want to get away from it all. Although it’s the next beach within an hour’s walk of Littlehampton’s West Beach, it feels quiet and remote (note that if you left your car at Climping, you’ll have to return). Apart from a few swimmers and dog walkers we had the beach to ourselves so it’s a good beach to visit if your dog needs some space.
Best Dog-friendly Beaches In Queensland
The dogs even have their own “dog friendly parking” when you arrive, which we thought was great. In fact, this is because upon arrival, the parking lot and beach on the left is where dogs are allowed, while the parking lot and beach on the right is where dogs must be on a leash. There is plenty of parking and there is a small cafe inside a converted shipping container with plenty of seating outside on the grass.
When it comes to dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex, West Wittering Beach is the West Sussex equivalent of dog-friendly Camber Sands, despite being the furthest from London and the hardest to reach by public transport of the beaches of this guide. However, in summer dogs are not allowed in the area between numbers 14a and 18, where the beautiful beach huts are located. Located within walking distance of the cottages and beach corner, East Head has plenty of space for dogs to enjoy the beach all year round. However, since the beach is usually quite crowded on hot summer days, you can do it during the week or at the end of summer.
