If you want to plan a day out with your favorite furry friend, read on for some perfect day trip ideas for doggy that are sure to get their attention.
You already know the amazing pubs and restaurants, but did you know there are also lots of dog friendly things to do in the Swan Valley?
Start your day at Bells Rapids in Brigadoon and choose one of two hiking trails – the 2.5 km River Walk or the 3 km Goat Walk. The view from the rapids is amazing. If your dog likes dog paddling, be sure to bring a towel because there is plenty of room for adventure here.
After a morning walk, get back in the car and head to funk 2.0 at Henley Brook for lunch. Described as a fermentation playground, funk 2.0 is a new global approach to beer and cider. All are unpasteurized, preservative-free, concentrated and sulfur-free, with no added sugar. There is a vibrant new space with indoor and outdoor seating with a full bar available! On a cold day enjoy mulled cider, or if you’re hungry, why not try the lamb shoulder served in cider juice, while the dogs play in the large lawn area.

Then, keep the fun going with a relaxing wine tasting at Lamont’s Winery. They have plenty of open space for you to enjoy a glass of wine with your pup, with delicious tapas, coffee and bread to treat the afternoon.
If you prefer ponies to Pinot, head to Swan Valley Station which is sure to be a hit with children, with your fur goat (on lead). They have a large children’s playground and a cubby house that can be seen from the cafe, with many friendly farm animals waiting for animals – ponies, donkeys, goats and chickens. Browse the gift shop, full of homewares, local produce and unique garden ornaments, or pick some plants from the nursery to take home. In addition, they have just opened a 5 million liter swimming pool and playground.
And, of course, Whiteman Park is also dog-friendly (on a lead) and even has an off-lead dog park.
You might want to explore the rest of the Perth Hills on your day out and if you do, pack your bags in the car and start your day at Avocados Cafe, on the banks of the Canning River.

Located in the south-east foothills just minutes from Roleystone, Kelmscott and Armadale, you’ll feel like you’re miles from the city surrounded by acres of woodland and open space. And they welcome well-behaved dogs on a leash. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere with coffee and freshly cooked breakfast, the perfect way to start the day. Avocado also has a dog chalet!
After breakfast, take your fur baby for a walk on one of the many trails in Ellis Brook Valley, located on Rushton Road in Martin County. This is the perfect time to visit this year, as Ellis Brook is always flowing from June to October. There are four hiking trails to choose from, depending on how you feel. From the “Easy Walking Trail”, to the more challenging Sixty Foot Falls Trail, which offers fantastic views of Perth from the top of the falls, you and your dog will love taking in all that Ellis Brook Valley has to offer.
Next, you cannot miss a visit to Pinjarra Bakery. I mean, who doesn’t love cake? But the cake is not all finished. Sip on our barista-brewed ‘Blacksmiths Blend’ coffee, or whip up a hearty dessert (vanilla slice, please!). They also have fresh gourmet baguettes, fancy wraps, fruit smoothies and homemade ice cream. And this is no ordinary restaurant. Pinjarra Bakery is back in 2021 to win the ‘Australia’s Best Meat Pie’ gold award for its ‘Chunky Steak Pie’ in the Australian Meat Pie Competition.
Grab a snack and drive through the hills to Lesmurdie Falls. Your dog will live his best life scrambling over the rocks and chasing the river in this amazing place.

And the best time of year to visit is now when the falls are in full flow and tumble over the Darling Range Escarpment. It has a choice of 5 hiking trails ranging from 300 m to 3 km, all of which accept dogs. You and your children will enjoy watching the waterfall from the tower.
End the day in the beautiful Bickley Valley at the Hainault Vineyard, a two-door boutique located on 17 hectares 10 minutes from Kalamunda. They pride themselves on being pet friendly. The vineyard is a premier vineyard in WA, and produces a wide variety of grapes including Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as cool climate varieties such as Pinot Noir and Gewurztraminer. Taste some award-winning wines with your dog by your side.
If you grew up in Perth, camping at Point Peron can be a special memory for you. What better way to take a trip down memory lane than a morning walk with the dog along the beautiful country lanes at the southern end of Cockburn Sound. It is only an hour’s drive from Perth and is close to the naval facilities of Garden Island.
And at Point Peron you’ll also find Vanilla Sprinkles, a restored van, serving freshly baked bread, coffee and milkshakes. Cars (called Taylor) are parked here every day, except Tuesday, between 19:15-12.

Since the foreshore renovation was completed in summer 2019, Rockingham Foreshore has not looked better. And just 45 minutes south of Perth, it’s the next stop on your dog day. Check out Rockingham’s cafe strip where you can take in the stunning Indian Ocean views while enjoying lunch at one of the dog friendly cafes. You might want to take some take out and picnic from the big one.
In 5 minutes by car you will find Richmond Lake, home to a thrombolite area – a group of rock structures considered to be one of the first forms of life on earth and more than 6 million years old. It is also one of the few places in the world where you can find this rock formation. A 3km dog walking trail around the lake is the perfect way to end your day.

This is the most popular trip for dogs. Located in the Swan Hill area, 40 minutes outside Perth CBD, so easy to get to. Bells Rapids is very dog friendly, with many kennels available. The best time to visit is after the winter, when the rain has hit the rapids, allowing plenty of splashes if your pup wants water! The Rapid Bells trail is a 2.75km loop, following the river, before climbing a steep hill with spectacular views.

This park is an area close to the city and the beach. It offers more than 15 km of hiking trails, each offering incredible views and landscapes. The park is very busy in the mornings and evenings, so make sure your dog stays on a lead!
This is a great trip for people and puppies! Located about 30 minutes from the Perth CBD, Ellis Brook Valley offers a variety of trails of different lengths and the refreshing Sixty Foot Falls after the rain. The trail is well marked and very crowded, so get off here to avoid the birds. Be sure to keep your dog on a leash during this time!
This is my favorite travel puppy! The route is about an hour from the Perth CBD, but well worth the drive. The 8km route crosses the railway line and into the Jarrah and Wandoo bush. This trip includes beautiful scenery, streams and will give you a sense of adventure!
