The beauty of being a peninsula in Michigan is that there are many beaches in the area, and in turn, there are many dog-friendly beaches. Taking your dog to the beach can be one of the most fun summer days for you and your pup.

Kirby loves water and will do his best to drink the entire lake. He did not succeed. Always have a life jacket and water toys with you.

There are several beaches where trained dogs can be let loose. If you want to go to the beach off-leash, make sure you have good memory and control of your dog.

Our personal favorite off-leash beach is Mission Point Beach. It is more secluded, there are not many dogs or other people around.

Some other great beaches include Port Crescent State Park, Warren Dunes State Park, and Silver Lake Sand Dunes.

Always check the type of trail: gravel, paved, etc. Depending on how long you plan to hike, it’s important to protect your dog’s paws. We have had great success with this boot. Our dog is a mini golden retriever with thin legs and can hold his own well.

If you want to vacation in Frankenmuth in the fall, Frankenmuth also hosts a Scarecrow Festival during Halloween. You’ll find other dog-themed Halloween festivals in other cities, mostly for dog costume contests and prizes.

Golden Sands Golf Course in Silver Lake allows dogs on the green! This is the only golf course in Michigan that lets your dog play golf with you. Dogs can play golf with you as long as they are well behaved, leashed and cleaned up afterwards.

Dogs are also allowed to eat together on the patio at the hotel’s Bucket Bar restaurant.

Make sure you call and let them know you want to bring your dog. Policies can change at any time and it’s always good to be prepared.
