Emily and Alma: I’m very lucky with my job; I was working in television and it often took me to Australia. I’m not sure how it happened, but I was able to find a pet-friendly hotel for a job that required me to drive instead of fly. They seemed to be healthy and that meant Alma could come with me. He liked to stay at the hotel while I was working and we stayed together when I finished. Since then, when I know that I am going to be sent somewhere, I check how long the trip will take and whether I can take time off after or before work to plan the trip. Sometimes it’s short notice and sometimes it’s planned in advance, but having an RV always means we’re ready for the trip. This is another reason to own an RV; This means that we can drive a long distance and always have a place to stop and sleep on the way.

Visiting Trust Places With Your Dog

Q: Give us an overview of the whole journey. Where were you, where are you? What’s good/bad about it?

Emily and Alma: We went on two trips this year. We started the year by visiting South Australia on the Yorke Peninsula, between the two jobs I had at work. We traveled from Melbourne for over two weeks, visiting Rapid Bay, Sellicks Beach and on to Yorke Peninsula, camping on a beautiful beach along the way. We then returned to Melbourne on the Great Ocean Road before returning to Sydney.

Our second big trip was a two and a half week vacation. We couldn’t take our car with us, so we hired a van and traveled from Darwin via Broome, Exmouth, Coral Bay, Perth, Margaret River and Albany to Esperance. It was a great trip and we saw a lot!

Our third trip back; We left Sydney in mid-December and headed to Brisbane for work. We then spent Christmas in Noosa before crossing Australia to Adelaide to camp behind Yorke Peninsula for the New Year. From here I did a quick job in Adelaide before hitting the road for two weeks. First we headed to the Flinders Range, then the Nullarbor – camping at the top of the Nullarbor Mountains had been on the bucket list for a while, so we drove 7 hours to tick it off the list! From here we took the opportunity to camp near Eyre Peninsula before taking a boat to Kangaroo Island where we returned to this amazing island for five days. We then returned to Rapid Bay and Sellicks Beach before returning to Melbourne and finally back to Sydney in early February.

Your Guide To Dog-friendly Travels

We have also traveled extensively, camping from Sydney through the Blue Mountains, Orange, Hunter Valley, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Canberra, Kiama Coast, Jervis Bay and Batemans Bay to name a few.

The best part of our trip was the freedom to hang out with Alma on campus, just get in the car and drive somewhere, pick a beach we’ve never been to see, and camp nearby for free. Being able to give her a life full of emotions and seeing her free and happy is the best part of the journey!

The worst is the heat. Sometimes it can be hard to do anything when it’s so hot! Especially since the car does not have air, we have to find a shady place or on the beach to walk in the sea or do more in our car during the day so that we can explore the area in the cold.

Pet Friendly Benson: Your Complete Dog Friendly Travel Guide!

I was surprised at how friendly this place is! First off, most of the campgrounds in this area are very nice and dog friendly! Then come all the activities you can do with your dog… First we went to the Ocean Park Aquarium where dogs are welcome! Alma really enjoyed watching all the fish and bird food. After that, all the beaches we visited were dog friendly, including Nettas Beach, where Alma swims and explores the boat. At the Monkey Mia Resort itself, camping is available, there is a restaurant-cafe outside and on the lawn. Then early in the morning they feed the dolphins, greet the well-behaved dogs at the port and watch them play and eat breakfast. Afterwards you can walk along the beach and use a SUP or kayak where dogs are welcome to visit Shark Bay from the beach. And on the big side… the boat! There are two types of dog friendly boats here and we chose the sunset boat. Since Alma is the only dog, she had a boat full to explore.

The second place for dogs is Kangaroo Island. Almost all campsites are dog friendly and there are some great resorts that allow us to use them. Most of the beaches here are dog friendly and out of this world! The only place we missed was the park, but I didn’t mind because there were so many other places to explore.

Our first dog destination is the Hunter Valley. What could be better than spending a week wine tasting in the beautiful countryside and watching your dog live a healthy life in the vineyard! We like to use electric scooters and explore the roads from vineyard to vineyard. More hospitable than us, Alma is homeschooled, chases the local dogs, eats cheese and sleeps under a tree before running or being taken to the next location.

Question: How did Alma deal with the whole trip? What are your dog walking tips and tricks?

10 Best Pet-friendly Vacations In Us (2022)

Emily and Alma: I love how relatable Alma is. He is a big dog and carries everything. I laid the groundwork at a young age by training, going on short trips and getting used to sleeping in tents and driving long distances at a young age. Now he no longer has a problem with the road and life in the car. In fact, when we got home in February, he refused to get out of the truck even though he knew we were home.

Emily and Alma: Alma refuses to belly swim from the beach, but she loves to jump on a board and swim around in the ocean or lake!

Alma likes to be patient, but always likes to sleep. He often slept alone and slept on the roof of the car.

Emily and Alma: We haven’t planned a big trip in a long time. I would like to do a few trips around Sydney in the coming months and see some of the Blue Mountains hiking and camping. Later this year we will return to Tasmania for two to three weeks and do more mountain trips as we still have a few mountains on the list. I also want to drive from Darwin to Adelaide through central Australia and drive from Alma to Uluru and Coober Pedy. But my big wish list is to take Alma to New Zealand and travel in an RV, visit every island and go camping, but that’s still in the planning stages… Who who knows where we will go the van will bring even if we decided to go this year.
