Dog Vacations New England – Looking for dog friendly hotels in New England? I hate leaving my dog Roscoe at home when you travel. After all, vacations are more fun when you can bring your best friend. But finding a dog-friendly hotel in New England takes a lot of research. What is the hotel’s dog policy? Is there an additional charge? Are there weight or breed restrictions? And you may worry about sacrificing your own comfort for traveling with a dog. Are motels and dingy roadside campsites the only option for “spoiling”? Or are there vacation spots that not only allow dogs, but also care for dogs and their owners?
I’m here to save you a lot of time and hassle when planning your next vacation with your dog. I’ve compiled a comprehensive list of my favorite dog-friendly hotels in New England, where I stayed with Roscoe. So there’s no need to leave your best friend the next time you’re on the road! This resort has everything you need for the perfect vacation without leaving the 700 acres. Choose from a wide range of fun activities for the whole family, from land to lake. The pool and beach are pet-free areas, but dogs have their own designated swimming area, Fan Beach. We were even able to rent a sailboat to go out on the lake with Roscoe! Alternatively, you can dine at one of the resort’s five restaurants. Dogs are not allowed in the dining rooms, but are welcome to dine with you in Red Mill’s casual outdoor seating. Dog walking and grooming services are also available if you want to have fun without Fido.
From land to water, there’s plenty for dogs to do in Basin Harbor.
Field Guide Lodge in Stowe is an elegant boutique hotel managed by Lark Hotels. Like many of their properties, the pet policy allows dogs up to 70 pounds for an additional $50 per dog, per day. We stayed in one of their three dog-friendly cottage suites, which have plenty of space and a private outdoor entrance. You can book this package online, just remember to add a note about your dog’s number, size and name. Dogs cannot be left alone in the room. Out of respect for other guests, dogs on a leash are only allowed on hotel balconies and outdoor common areas.
This hotel has a stylish and elegant decor. The lobby lounge, comfortably decorated with retro wood stoves and cozy fur pillows, invites you to relax with a book or a board game. Guests can have breakfast in the lobby cafe bar or enjoy drinks and snacks in the new vintage ski bar, Après Only. You have to reserve the outdoor hot tub in advance, which is a bit tricky. But the advantage is that you are guaranteed to have it all to yourself. And the location is unbeatable. We could walk downtown and the mountain buses stop in front of the hotel. It’s the perfect home base for you and your pup’s Vermont adventures.

The Inn at Mountain View Farm is a very special place to stay in the heart of Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. Per pet policy, dogs are allowed an additional $50 per night in certain rooms: Peacham, Danville, N.Y. Danville, Maidstone and Lost Nation. You can select the “Pets” option to book your room online. The hotel is so animal-friendly that a friendly golden retriever works at the front desk, and there’s even an animal shelter on site. Consider whether your dog is reactive to other animals!
We stayed in the Deluxe Peacham room which was cozy but comfortable. Roscoe wanted to fall asleep in front of the crackling fireplace. In the morning they welcomed us with hot cakes and coffee in the main building of the hotel. Just when we thought we couldn’t take one more bite, the hostess brought out a batch of her famous farm-fresh blueberry pancakes that we couldn’t resist.
With 400 acres nestled on a mountaintop in the unspoiled Northeast Kingdom, this historic farm is one of the most picturesque places I’ve ever stayed. The morning mist descended on the mountains and in the valley.
The Kimpton Taconic in Manchester has one of the most liberal pet policies I’ve come across. Everyone is welcome, from furry to feathered, as long as you fit them in the elevator! There are no restrictions on the size, weight, breed or number of pets, and there are no deposits or additional fees. Simply filter by pet when booking online and fill out the pet form at check-in.

The Kimpton Taconic is truly the perfect place to pamper your dog. Rooms are furnished with food bowls, toys, treats and a plush Orvie dog bed. (Orv’s flagship store down the street is a must-see for your dog). Dogs are allowed in the lobby of the hotel’s restaurant, Copper Grouse, and in the front porch dining area. During the cold season, they have outdoor heaters to keep you and your pup warm. Additionally, you can request pet services, including but not limited to babysitting, dog walking and pet spa services, by contacting the front desk.
Made Inn Vermont in downtown Burlington is a home away from home for you and your pet. The pet policy of this stylish urban boutique bed and breakfast welcomes well-behaved furry friends for a fee of $25 per pet per day. You can book directly online, just make sure you add your dog to the number of guests and provide the details in the notes.
We stayed in room 904, one of the larger rooms recommended for larger dogs. Even with Roscoe it was pretty cozy and the bathrooms are down the hall (although still private). The quirky character of the houses may not be for everyone, but it is in a great location just steps from the town centre. The owner is very friendly and happy to offer suggestions for pet-friendly restaurants and things to do in Burlington.
Located in central Vermont between Killington and Rutland, Mountain Top Resort not only allows dogs, it puts them first. Its pet policy states that canine companions are welcome in the resort’s four deluxe king cabins and a selection of guest houses with Vermont-made dog treats, beds and bowls. You can reserve for an additional fee of $50 per night per dog, with a maximum of two dogs per unit. Dogs must be registered at the time of your booking.

With simple but clean rooms, it’s also one of the most affordable hotel options in Stowe. Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired, so go elsewhere for your morning meal.
