The apartments here are well-equipped – everything you need is stocked from dishes to towels, firewood, bottle openers, washing up liquid, toiletries, cutlery, fridge, ensuite, binoculars, guide books – really everything you need. Steve was surprised to find the two pieces in the box, even though there weren’t many places and he was lost in the kitchen without them. Everything is finished to a very high standard and everything looks good and beautiful.
I know many of you wouldn’t imagine glamping without your own toilet, and I get that! At Shepherd’s Retreats, you have your own shower, sink and toilet. It really blew up too. You can see more of the bathroom in our video tour with the links above / below.

It’s not a big deal to us now, but when the kids were little, a backyard was our dream. Being able to sit outside and see that the kids aren’t running on the streets is always a relief. As a parent of young children now, I always appreciate this private and lovely space in our own room overlooking the beach and Dunstanburgh Castle in the distance.
Hot springs are on many people’s bucket lists when booking a short vacation, and Shepherd’s Retreats certainly offers this. Designed to accommodate two people, enjoy a hot tub with an adjoining fireplace. It takes about 90 minutes to reach that temperature, but once it does, you need to turn it on for 30 minutes each time you use it again during the break to increase the temperature. . This hot tub is the hottest hot tub I’ve ever been in. It’s really fun and I think heating with a wood stove adds to the experience and fun of it all. We have a routine where the kids enjoy a swim in the afternoon and Steve and I take a swim together at sunset. It is very beautiful.
Beadnell is a beautiful place and the beaches really remind me of places in Cornwall. This beach is dog friendly and you can try kayaking, kitesurfing, paddleboarding or other water sports here. There are lessons and equipment to rent right on the beach.
We had a good laugh when we saw a family trying out a rowing boat – the kids just took it and paddled, leaving their parents struggling to get started. They probably flipped it 10 times, but it was fun and they pulled it off. They got the result! There is also a lovely food shop on the beach (check out their Facebook page here).

Bait on Beadnell really feels at the heart of the community and serves fish at reasonable prices. I’m going to try to go there with Steve sometime because their lobster and fries sound delicious! There are many activities like Beach Yoga. People living my dream life have it. Beadnell is also home to the Craster Arms, one of my favorite pubs.
Seahouses and Bamburgh are within 5 miles and are well worth a visit. I recommend taking a boat trip with Serenity Tours to see the seals and Bamburgh Castle and the beaches are not to be missed.
Box Pizza is just down the road – a 10 minute walk and great for take out or sit down. Their pizza is delicious! Check their Facebook page for their latest opening hours and special offers as they can be limited. You can read Steve’s review of Box Pizza here.
If there is no fire in glamping, then according to the children it is not real glamping. There are many options here from indoor and outdoor wood stoves to BBQ ovens and great pizzas. Back to basics in the best way. But I went over the marshmallows!
Dog Friendly Glamping
It’s good to do a digital detox, and spend less time on our phones at Shepherd’s Retreats. The kids played in the park, we spent time in the hot tub around the campfire cooking/eating marshmallows, we played games (we didn’t like it) and read books. can record people and check Instagram to see. if someone is there.
There is a USB charger (takes the car adapter) and there is also WiFi. Harry was happy that he could watch his YouTube videos and listen to his podcasts while enjoying his hot chocolate before bed. When you’re with the young and the young, it’s about the debate, I guess, and I’m not mad at Harry for always being on his phone when he’s engaging with us in other ways. . This helps to have ‘full’ time off and as I always say, that includes the kids’ holidays and if they want phone time why not. It’s about balance and it’s best to have the right time.
Directly above the King Size bed is a ceiling with a star view. I have never been in a place with one of these before and I think this is a USP. It was peaceful to lie in bed and watch the clouds drift by. When did you see the clouds? I don’t remember. I told Steve all weekend that I was very relaxed. The night we turned off the lights, it was beautiful to see all the stars shining overhead. There are curtains if you’re worried about the light the next morning, but we didn’t use them and everything was fine.
I LOVE that the Shepherd’s Retreat is dog friendly. The area is great for dog walking and all the beaches are dog friendly. Dogs are allowed on the slopes of nearby Bamburgh Castle and there are many dog friendly pubs/restaurants (you can read about some dog friendly pubs and restaurants here) .

Dogs receive a VIP welcome with homemade dog treats in the welcome box, a garden hose to clean paws of sand, dog towels, treats and water bowls. As a non-dog resident, you will not know that the area is dog friendly and there is no sign of any dog living here. It really is the best of both worlds!
The cabinets are made by local craftsmen from Hexham using modern materials. I love that the ground floor of our apartment is part of the Rex Hotel in Whitley Bay. The resorts were awarded a cash award in eco tourism based on their efforts using ‘A’ rated equipment, using containers, using suppliers local like welcome bags, using solar energy, using wood from 100% UK forests, using eco- friendly cleaners, bird nest boxes and and more.
