Best Dog Friendly Motorhome Sites – Our dog, Ella, absolutely loves our trailer all over the world. When we got the keys to the minibus, he ran straight to the front door because he was afraid of being left behind; He was very happy as he walked down the street, his ears ringing in the wind.
Of course, if we are planning a trip in our car, Ella is important in this plan. Since Ella came into our lives we have found some great dog friendly camps and most importantly, we have learned what makes the perfect dog friendly camp.

This may seem obvious, but sometimes we were taken for granted that the field would welcome Ella with open arms, only to be told “no dogs allowed.” Call us naive, but before we got our dog, we never thought that some campgrounds wouldn’t allow dogs.
Tips For Camping With Dogs
These are some, but it is necessary to learn from our mistakes and check in advance. Most of the major booking sites, such as Cool Camping and Pitchup, have filters that can be used to filter out areas that are not dog friendly. Many campgrounds will say on their website if dogs are allowed, and if not, you should call ahead to ask.
One of the things I love about being with Ella is that she encourages us to explore our surroundings. Almost all campsites have a ‘no lead dog’ policy (which is the best part!). But our dog is an active dog that needs to be let out at least a few times a day, which means finding a safe place to work.
Fortunately, camping and the wilderness go hand in hand, and we always found a hidden treasure that was a rock garden at our camp.
Before booking a campsite, we looked at Google Maps to find out where the house was. We look for woods, rivers, or public areas where trails are marked. There are many campsites near farmland, so we also checked that we could protect Ella from animals and food if she went.
Dog Friendly Parks
It is a good idea to check if the local attractions and events are dog friendly, including the bars, cafes and restaurants you want to visit.
This is especially important if you are going on a beach holiday in Devon or Cornwall. You can spend years identifying the perfect camping spot on a beautiful beach, only to find out that your dog is not allowed on that beach.
In our experience it’s best to check in advance otherwise your travel plans will be thrown out the window. On the other hand, you might be surprised. We recently managed to hire a ferry to take Ella up the River Wye, which I never saw coming!
Finally, the most important item (but hard to find) in our opinion, is the camping area and the shelters. Being able to park in a shady place would make things better for Ella (and us, if we wanted to sleep in it).
Top 5 Best Pet-friendly Camping Spots In South Africa
It’s okay to ask that. Most campsites will be very comfortable and will provide you with a shelter if they have one.
With this in mind, here are our 5 favorite dog camps in England and Wales. Not only do they tick all the boxes, but everywhere we go back to Ella…
A peaceful and spacious accommodation close to the North Devon coast. Dogs are allowed on leashes, but this is a working farm, so be careful with farm animals. The camp is very friendly with good facilities and a good farm shop. It is close to the dog-friendly Woolacombe beach (except for the smallest section) and there is an endless stretch of sand to explore.
If your dog needs to blow off some steam before breakfast…walk through the entrance to the campground and you’ll see a small trail on your right. Walk along this path (on the road) and it will eventually lead you to a bridge in a quiet forest. We didn’t see another soul there!
The Best Dog Friendly Campsites In Europe
It is a large, open space in the heart of the lakes with a simple and unobstructed atmosphere. There are many wild swimming spots in the area and there is a nearby village a short walk away from the forest. The bars and cafes we went to in the village were dog friendly and there was plenty to explore in the area. The only thing worth noting in the Lake District is the presence of blue-green algae in some lakes. It’s very dangerous for dogs (and not good for humans), so make sure you know before you dive into the water. Gov.uk has lots of information on this to look out for
If your dog wants to work up a sweat before breakfast… walk to the bridge at the entrance to the camp and from there to the woods. A path runs along the river and continues!
A happy camp on a working farm. Although it is still a working farm, dogs are welcome on a leash. What we love about this site is how informal it is. It is basically a “park where you want” place. It’s close to Glastonbury (a town where we discovered she really likes dogs – Ella wasn’t too keen). So good for a walk on the Tor and close to a good wild swimming spot in West Lydford.
If your dog wants to work up a sweat before breakfast… turn off the road and in a few minutes you will reach a path on your right. This was the beginning of a network of roads that separated the farmland. Be aware that there are cows in the field near the road.
Best Illinois Dog-friendly Camping Spots
This large open cliff plot is one of our all-time favorites. We discovered this a few years ago when we were looking for a place to hang out with a large group of friends. We wanted to build a fire, have some drinks, and not worry about disturbing others. Celtic Camp is the perfect place for that; There is plenty of space for everyone to be away from each other and the beach walk around the corner from the camp is amazing. The ocean view is amazing too! If you want to join the world, St. David’s is only a short drive away.
If your dog wants to work up a sweat before breakfast… walk to the beach and follow the coastal path on both sides. So go ahead!
Just a crazy idea … a country pub and small campsite in the North Wales area. We stumbled upon this place when a planned trip to Snowdonia failed and decided to stay in the plains. The pub is traditional, cozy, good food and very dog friendly with dog beer and dog sausage! Camps are reasonably priced and have everything you need. Although it was different from our original plan, we found this to be a great place to explore the corner of North East Wales.
If your dog needs a sweat before breakfast… walk from the parking lot to the main road. After walking 30 meters you will see a gate on your right and a path going up the hill. Follow the path in the forest and explore to your heart’s content!
