Dog Friendly Beaches East Coast – North Norfolk is one of the most dog-friendly places in the UK. The beautiful coastline attracts many people to the area and is a great place for responsible dog owners and their pets to walk and play all year round. We recommend visiting one of these beautiful beaches when you stay at one of our luxury cottages in North Norfolk.
As an animal-loving nation, many of us have dogs and like to take them with us for the weekend, a good place to take the dog is one of the fantastic beaches in North Norfolk. Although the area is dog friendly, there are certain restrictions throughout the year to protect the local wildlife. The rules and regulations for allowing dogs on the beach vary from area to area, we have collected our favorite dog beaches in North Norfolk to make it easier to choose which one to go to.
Dog Friendly Beaches East Coast
If your four-legged friend likes to run, we recommend Brancaster. The miles from the coast have plenty of space to run, play and release some pent-up energy. Brancaster has plenty of shallow water, perfect for little friends and those who love the rain.
Dog Friendly Beaches Groton Long Point, Ct
Brancaster has a designated dog-free zone from May to September. This area is to the left of the beach entrance and is clearly signposted asking that dogs be kept close to reduce the risk of disturbing the protected nesting birds. The rest of the beach is available for you and your friends.
Nestled between Cromer and Great Yarmouth, the beautiful sands of Sea Palling attract many visitors throughout the year. The beach has miles of golden sand in both directions, making it the perfect place for a stroll. A blue flag beach means the water quality is good for paddling and cool on a hot day. Many facilities facing the Sea Palling Center are also dog-friendly and offer water bowls and treats.
There is a dog restriction between May 1 and September 30, which excludes the beach area and requires dogs to be on a lead when walking on the boardwalk. But if you head east along the coast to Waxham, the area is very dog friendly.
Unlike Hunstanton, which is a promenade with many attractions, Old Hunstanton is a quiet escape of sand as far as the eye can see. Despite being on the east coast of England, it is the only part of Norfolk that faces west. This makes Old Hunstanton the perfect place to watch a stunning sunset while walking your four-legged friend on a chilly evening.

Even in summer, the beach has many places to get away from the crowds. The beach is dog-friendly all year round, so whatever the season or weather, you can get fresh sea air in your lungs and sand between your toes and paws.
Located near the beach entrance, the cafe offers a great place to grab yourself and your dog a bite to eat after a long day of exploring.
Weybourne is a great place to walk at any time of year and, unlike the nearby seaside town of Sheringham, is dog friendly all year round. The rocky beach has many nooks and crannies to find and explore, perfect for dogs who like to chase their noses.
A half mile walk into the village will find a dog friendly pub to refresh and relax, or warm if you want to go out in the winter.
Dog Friendly Beaches
As part of the Holkham National Nature Reserve, Burnham Overy State runs through the hills. It is a long walk from the car park to the beach which is over a kilometer so may not be suitable for larger dogs. The beach is calm with spectacular coastal views, perfect for spending quality time playing together. However, there are areas where the walk to the beach crosses marshes that are home to wildlife, where dogs should be kept and controlled where possible.
As you can see, there are many beautiful beaches where you can take your dog during the day. The wide coastline matched by Norfolk’s unique blue skies and beautiful countryside is a dog’s idea of paradise to explore. Last summer we covered the dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex, but today on the blog we’re going to show you three dog-friendly sandy beaches between Margate and Broadstairs in north-east Kent. – round, so don’t worry about dog beach tires from May to September.
The best thing is that the beaches in question are not far from each other, so if you travel by car you can drive between them all in one day. Nearby are the seaside towns of Margate and Broadstairs, both of which have great things to do for dogs – more on that later.

4 Delicious Dog-friendly Restaurants In Jax Beach
Palm Bay Beach will be a dog friendly beach for Margate all year round if you wish to combine the two visits. When we first arrived in Palm Bay, it wasn’t immediately clear how you would go from walking to the beach, but if you find a path between the rocks, the beach is yours. There is a lot of sand to sniff on the beach, or scale up and down if you like the gray dog we saw.
Free street parking is available and there is a dog-friendly jet ski cafe by the beach.
About ten minutes down the coast between Margate and Broadstairs you will find Kingsgate Bay, famous for its white chalk cliffs, sea caves and the much-photographed Kingsgate Bay Sea Arch. The tide was still high when we visited so we couldn’t go through the arch, but it was still a beautiful beach to visit.
Unfortunately there is no car park at Kingsgate Bay and the entrance to the beach is hit and miss. The only parking option is directly at the Captain Digby Pub (dogs are only allowed in the outside dining area). If you don’t eat right away, you’ll gain 20 pounds.

You can walk to the popular Joss Bay Surf Beach with good parking and then walk to Kingsgate Bay approx. 15 minutes. Please note that dogs are allowed on Joss Bay Beach from 1 May to 30 September before 10am. 10.00 and after 18.00.
Another dog-friendly option to stop along the way is the Botany Bay Hotel, a 10-minute walk from Kingsgate Beach. Dogs are welcome in the bar area, and there are also dog-friendly hotel rooms if you plan to stay overnight.
At least the closest beach to Broadstairs on the list is Dampton Gap – in fact you can walk from Dampton Gap to Broadstairs in 15 minutes if you want. Dumpton Gap was a fantastic afternoon favorite for us. Make sure to come at low tide and you can walk along the beach with nothing but sand, sea and steep white cliffs as a backdrop, which is truly amazing.
There is plenty of street parking at the entrance to the beach, parking is easy. Although not open when we visited, Sam’s Café, which faces the sand at the beach entrance, has a good reputation for welcoming people and puppies.
