Dog Friendly Vacations Oklahoma – We want to go on vacation with people we like. That’s why most of us travel with pets. The good news is that Beavers Bend, Oklahoma is already one of the region’s pet-friendly destinations.
We’re talking pet-friendly cabins, dining decks, hiking trails, and even lakes and rivers. These photos alone make the forests and waters of southeastern Oklahoma an Instagrammer’s dream. Imagine these images: A dog stands in a clear river. A dog chases a stick in the lake. Is the dog living the best life? Here are five reasons why you should take your pet with you on vacation.

Imagine sitting on the back deck of your luxury cabin, gazing at the morning mist rising from the cool, nearby river. Thousands of pine trees surround you, doing their best to delay the sunrise. But with your dog on the porch and a cup of coffee, you can enjoy every unplanned minute of the day. It all starts when you check the “Pet” box in the filter on the “Find a Cabin” page. You’re spoiled for choice when it comes to pet-friendly cabins, so it’s difficult to narrow down your choices. Choose a secluded cabin in a scenic location near a state park and Broken Bow Lake, or close to the amenities of Hochatown, Broken Bow or Idabel. The only problem you may have is choosing a pet-friendly cabin and location.
Broken Bow Pet Friendly Cabins
Pets are welcome in most Beavers Bend enclosures. It’s best to check with the owner first, but that’s usually not a problem. You and your loved one can start with morning tea at a local cafe (not a chain) and end with a recovery session in the backyard of a local restaurant after a long day at the lake. We strive to never leave Beavers Bend hungry. And we’re pretty good at it.
Enjoy an incredibly wide selection of locally brewed premium beers, from lagers and hoppy beers to seasonal beers. (Jalapeño Ale anyone?). Both Beavers Bend and Mountain Fork Breweries have pet-friendly enclosures, perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up or a quiet evening with the pups and friends. They also offer glasses or growlers that you can take to the cabin or home as a memento of your trip. If you can afford beer, there are four wineries—Girls Gone Wine, Knotted Rope Winery, Fish Tales, and Vojai’s Winery—that offer tastings and bottles to go. All wineries are dog-friendly or have dog yards.
McCurtainCounty – Beavers Bend State Park, Broken Bow Lake and Lower Mountain Fork River. This is crystal clear mountain water where you and your pet can splash, swim or swim for hours. Rent a canoe or kayak from River Rats on Broken Bow and explore the nooks and crannies. Or rent a pontoon boat at Beavers Bend Marina and take your dog for a fun walk, swim, retrieve fishing rods, bark with an award-winning bass, or simply let your worries go with First Mate Fido.
Walking a few miles is a great way to exercise both you and your pup mentally and physically. Collect kilometers and discover the most beautiful countries in the United States. Start with these great trails with water or scenic views to take photos with your pups. The Spillway Loop is a very scenic 4 mile loop with flowing and calm water. For an easy 1.2-mile loop to Beaver Creek, take the tree trail behind the park’s Forest Heritage Center Museum. Or try the Lookout Mountain Loop – it’s a little more challenging and good for burning off energy. This is just a taste of what awaits you and your best friend in Beavers Bend. It’s time to roll down the window and let the drool flow as you head out on your adventure. It doesn’t take me three months to write a blog post about my Route 66 dog road trips, but sometimes I just can’t get started, I’m not motivated or in the mood to talk. My first dog walk on Route 66 with Henri was even more adventurous. And by “adventure” I mean missed turns, tornado warnings, and really bad stops. I’m looking at you, Uranus. Because I didn’t have the benefit of EZ Guide or experience.
If you are in the planning stages of a Route 66 trip, the first step is to get this book. It won’t tell you where the dog-friendly stops are – I do – but it will save your navigation supplies and maybe your sanity too.
Oklahoma — Hike With Your Dog
With the book in hand, turn to page 16 of “Oklahoma.” Highlight this. It says, “Visit McJerry’s Route 66 Gallery by artist/EZ Guide creator Jerry McClanahan.” Do it. The phone number is there. Call and arrange a viewing appointment. The book is a travel guide, but Mr. It contains stories from its author, Jerry. He will also sign your book.
We pick up where we left off on our last Route 66 adventure with dogs: Blue Whale in Catoosa, OK. The gift shop was open so we got 66 passports and stamps from Oklahoma USA.
Permission, but it’s fun to get it. We didn’t get a passport in Missouri, so the first Route 66 stamp is in my leather travel journal. This is from the Boots Court Dog Motel in Carthage, MO. It still remains one of my favorite experiences.
Mr Jerry informed us that The Boots has been under new management since our visit in 2019, which I’m a little sad about. I think change is part of the journey, but Debbie Dee’s hospitality cannot be replaced.

Another tip I have for your Route 66 expedition: get a hairless travel buddy. It is very helpful if someone reads a book while driving. Let’s face it: Catoosa to Tulsa doesn’t require any special navigation. We arrived at the hotel in less than two hours.
The dog-friendly Campbell Hotel is housed in a restored 1927 building. It features original wooden floors and vintage suitcases found throughout the building and adorning the lobby walls. Since we were traveling all week, it was easy to get the Route 66 suite. It’s beautifully decorated with street art, including vintage metal signs in the bathroom. A box spring mattress, a large bathtub and a double shower head make this room very comfortable.
The ground floor bar and lounge are pet friendly and there are green spaces on the east side of the parking lot perfect for potty training. The pet deposit is $25 per night.
Get your neon fix right on 11th Street, starting with the glowing Campbell Hotel sign that marks the hotel entrance across the street. About a mile down the road (I recommend driving) you’ll find even more neon at Buck Atom’s Space Curiosities. During the day, visit the dog-friendly gift shop at the 1950s PEMCO gas station to pick up some Route 66 memorabilia and a fresh water bowl for your pup. Return after dark to see the eerie 21-foot glow. Space cowboy. Along the streets of Buck is the Golden Meadow Milk Sign, erected in 1934. The original building was demolished in 2004, but the sign was preserved and moved to this location on Route 66. Details of the sign’s history can be found on plaques in the pavilion below the sign.
Broken Bow Cabins Pet-friendly
For dog-friendly food on Route 66, visit Tally’s Good Food Café. It is just 5 minutes from Campbell and offers a very extensive menu of American cuisine. You can indulge your neon passion for decorating or enjoy a dog area with custom bowls for your furry friend.
After dinner, plan a visit to the Admiral Twin Drive-In to keep it retro and fun. Located right on Route 66, films have been shown there since 1951. Francis Ford Coppola used this location to film a drive-in scene from “The Outsiders.” Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash.
EZ Guide offers several Tulsa tours: Blue Dome Gas Station, Blue Dome District and Gilcrease Museum. From previous travel experiences, I can tell you that Gilcrease has five themed gardens and 23 dog-friendly acres to explore with your pup. In the Blue Dome District, your four-legged friend can enjoy German-inspired dishes with you in Fassler Hall’s dog-friendly beer garden.
