First a little background on what our new pet is all about. A few years ago, when COVID suddenly disrupted our lives and the first lockdowns began, my husband and I joined an animal loving community to feed Indie’s street dogs. And that’s how we saw a beautiful puppy lost in the park without a mother. They are only a few weeks old and we spend a lot of time feeding them. One of them is an active and playful dog, which one of our friends always calls Raju because of his favorite name for dogs.

Raju grew more shy that day and became the happy but powerful Alpha of the pack. Unfortunately, an accident happened and apparently some hooligans hit him in the middle of the night when he was six months old and broke his back. Baby Raju is paralyzed and in a lot of pain – many doctors recommend that he be put down. Eventually one of them agreed to the operation and brought him home, hoping that one day he would be able to walk and escape the dogs that used to attack him. However, two years later, when he can stand and walk a little, he is still weak and weak, but he runs in a wheelchair that we found for him. Raju is a traveler of beaches and forests and now he has a wonderful vacation in the mountains. His younger brother, Eyshu, has been with him from time to time, and he started living with us a few months ago, and this trip was the first time he left home.

Aurika Coorg talks about animal welfare. The pet resort in Coorg has more than 95 dog and cat guests from over 30 Indies. Most of the friendly houses focus on the Indies and enjoy the beautiful and simple candy. They also have many restrictions. However, Aurika Coorg rarely has any of these as they are hung outside the animal’s rooms and grounds.

Raju the crippled dog also has special needs. Although we have taken her to resorts in Ooty and Bangalore and other tourist places near Bangalore, we are worried whether she will be comfortable here or not. But Aurika Coorg made sure it was at home from the start. Our guest animals are their mantra, they accept animal friendship, you can see it above the entrance, says general manager Sanjay Pandita who hosts us. As we had a welcome drink, Raju and Aishu gave us some food. We also register pets at the time of booking with the necessary information.

Rooms come with pet beds, treats, and toys, and they love them. Everything is designed with the safety and comfort of the animal in mind. There are also bowls for making food and water. With food prepared for dogs, they can sit with you in the restaurant at special tables.

The staff take care of the animals with such love that Raju and Aishu enjoy their indulgence there. They walk and run by our side, roll in the grass, sunbathe, chase squirrels and birds, watch the big lawn from their balconies, exercise, sleep and dream of other trips.

But there is much more to Aurika Coorg than being a zoo-friendly place. Spread across 45 hectares, the beautifully designed property welcomes you to views of the Western Ghats forests and coffee and aromatic plantations. Every part of the house has a story, whether the art installation in the reception or the art wood used to design some furniture. You can go bird watching, go on nature walks, and farm tours, and try your hand at coffee making.

Birds are everywhere – in parks, gardens and art in rooms and streets. I went birding and nature watching at Ganesh house, the “birdmanofCoorg” has been a legend for over two decades. Ask him
